Creative Careers Fair 2013
Monday 4 March, 11.00am – 6.00pm
Chesterfield College, Infirmary Road Campus
As part of Creative Derbyshire’s ongoing commitment to supporting young people in their creative career choices, we are working with Chesterfield College to hold a Creative Careers Fair as part of National Careers Week 2013. This event is part of a much bigger careers fair taking place at Infirmary Road Campus on the same day, featuring employers from a variety of job sectors.
We are looking for artists and creative businesses who are willing to come and talk to people aged 16-24 about careers in the creative sector. This will involve having an exhibition stand at the event and offering information and advice to young people. We understand that the majority of our exhibitors may not have any vacancies at the moment and the event is not solely focused on recruitment. The event is intended to create an informal environment for young people, allowing them to meet creative professionals and discuss what is needed, academically and in terms of job-related experience, to prepare for a career in the creative industries. The event will also feature workshops, talks and performances taking place throughout the day. It’s an opportunity for young people to research future career options by engaging directly with the people already doing the job.
Creative Careers Fair will take place from 11am until 6pm, allowing for schools and students to attend as well as young people coming later, on their own or with parents. As this is a full day’s event we appreciate you may not be able to attend for the entirety of the day.
This is the second Creative Careers Fair we have organised in partnership with Chesterfield College. We held a successful event in June 2012 as part of final year shows and exhibitions, which was well attended by college students and schools. This time the exhibition stands will occupy a large space called The Dome in the department of art, design & creative industries. Exact dimensions of exhibition tables will be confirmed later.
Giving Something Back
A vital element of our work around creative careers is about working closely with local artists and creatives to harness the passion of the people involved and contribute something to local young people who are just starting out. By getting involved in the Creative Careers Fair and sharing your knowledge and expertise, you are showing commitment to helping young people understand the skills and experience they need to develop a creative career. We very much hop you can get involved – this is also a great opportunity to raise the profile of your business, network with other exhibitors and support your recruitment activities.
I look forward to hearing from you as to whether you think you could offer some of your time to attend the careers fair as an exhibitor. Please email me or call if you want to discuss any aspect of the event in more detail. We will send out further information to all confirmed exhibitors prior to the event.
I attach a poster advertising the event which gives you more details.
