Carob at Sheffield Clandestine Cake Club

imageBaking with Carob at our July meeting. The challenge was to learn how to bake with carob and I made a carob, honey and walnut cake using carob syrup. here is the write up I did for the Clandestine Cake Club

The cake I made had deep rich flavour and an almost treacly taste. #Yummy The carob was supplied by @savvyspreads in Sheffield.

  1. I have always seen it as chocolate’s poor relation, so this is an interesting take.

    • Carob is a healthy food in its own right, with lots of health benefits..the trick is not to think of it as chocolate but as a different flavour. The syrup is a good alternative to sugar , as it a slow release natural sugar so great in cakes or cooking if you are trying to cut out refined sugar. I like Savvy Spreads Chocolate version especially for dipping organic carrots as a guilt free snack !! @savvyspreads on Twitter
